artist statement

Jennifer Nerad explored painting, printmaking, fiber art, and photography before discovering - and falling in love with - ceramics. Working in clay allows her to create functional objects that are also beautiful to look at and use. Jennifer is interested in the moods created by light, color, and texture in nature, and her work explores a quiet essentialness and is inspired by the human and natural landscape. Her work aims for simplicity and a level of abstraction that portrays the reflection of a moment, a memory, rather than a representation. Jennifer was born in Vermont, raised in Wisconsin and Northwest Washington, and currently lives and works in Bellingham, Wash. She received a BA from Western Washington University and has studied with many excellent artists nationwide.
